Meet the Creators

Jon Wilson
Author
Helpless at the Gates of Graceland represents a departure for Jon Wilson, whose six previous books have focused on local history. Wilson has lived in St. Petersburg since 1956. He worked as a reporter and editor for 37 years for the St. Petersburg Times and Evening Independent, and 11 years for Florida Humanities. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English and master’s degrees in Journalism Studies and in Liberal Arts, all from the University of South Florida St. Petersburg.

“Mild-Mannered Master of Gore” (Players Magazine), Justin Groom found early career success with featured work in the international periodical The World of Fandom, the breakout comic book Biohazard (published under Justin’s own label, Omni Comics), children’s book illustrations, and extensive murals and installations in the night clubs of Ybor City. After way too long in a cubicle, Justin has returned to full-time art, with an open commission status, and new projects including an upcoming Biohazard reboot.
Justin resides in St. Petersburg, Florida with his partner and wife, Becca McCoy, and their cat Bella, where he enjoys good tea, being outdoors, and vintage home goods and lighting. In 2022, Justin and Becca formalized Leafmore Studios, LLC, offering merchandise, original fine art, and creative services. In 2025, he joined as a member at the Hive Community Clay to expand his creative practice into ceramics.
